Learning About Gas Heater Troubleshooting

Many people are now using home gas heaters in their regular or mobile homes. They have found that these are convenient, are energy savers and can heat large areas efficiently. These gas heaters can be operated on natural gas or propane, some needing a vent and others vent free.

If you are going to heat an entire home then it will, of course, be necessary to have a vented unit. If a new unit is being installed then it is essential that a professional gas heater person do the work. This is due to the numerous laws regarding installation and there will be an gas installer inspector appearing to be sure it is done properly.

This is necessary for you and your family's safety. An improperly installed heater can give off carbon monoxide fumes which can make a person very ill and even cause death if the area is tightly enclosed. Because of this danger it is always suggested that a carbon monoxide detector be installed. This is a small unit that will not be noticed but that will give off an alarm should these fumes be detected.

At times operating problems will occur with these heaters. Sometimes they are minor and, if you read the operating manual carefully, can easily be corrected by some simple adjustment. For example, if there is no power you should check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers in the furnace, at the main or separate panel.

No power could also be caused by a switch off, a motor overload, no gas or the pilot light out. Not enough heat could be caused by the way the thermostat is set, a dirty filter, a clogged blower, registers closed, blower belt loose or the system out of balance.

Other problems such as the pilot light not lighting or won't stay lit, the furnace noisy or won't quite running do happen from time to time. Repairing these things is no big deal and directions are, as stated in the owner's manual and are available on the Internet as well. Home gas heaters are designed so, for the most part, you can easily correct a problem without difficulty.
